ThermoGreenHydrogen 2
- a world premiere in Schwanenstadt

Together with the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria and the K1-MET research institute, Powerlink is developing a globally unique process: unused thermal energy is converted directly into hydrogen using thermoelectric technology.

The TGH2 project is divided into two parts:

  • As part of the collaborative R&D project with K1-MET and the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, an integrated concept is being developed to harness the potential of hydrogen, heat, oxygen and electricity on a large scale and optimize the operation of electrolysis plants.

  • The TGH2 infrastructure project will test and demonstrate this optimized operation. For this purpose, Powerlink is building a demonstration plant in Schwanenstadt. Through a local partnership with the energy provider KWG, which operates hydroelectric power plants and photovoltaic systems, among other facilities, the electrolysis plant can be supplied with 100% renewable energy.

The projects are funded by the State of Upper Austria and the European Union under the IBW/ERDF & JTF programme. Further information about the programme is available at www.efre.gv.at.
